Tesla Inc. is preparing to enter the Indian market, demonstrated by its hiring for 13 roles, including customer and back-end jobs in Mumbai and Delhi.
This move follows Elon Musk’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US. India’s reduced import duties and the growing EV market present a significant opportunity for Tesla amidst slowing sales.
According to recent job posts posted on its LinkedIn page, the renewable behemoth Tesla Inc., which is only slightly present in India, announced plans on Monday to begin hiring in India.
What are the job positions?
- including service technician
- various advisory roles
were available in both Mumbai and Delhi, while the rest of the openings, such as customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist, were for Mumbai.
For years, Tesla and India have had intermittent interactions, but the automaker has avoided the South Asian country because to worries about exorbitant import taxes. For luxury vehicles costing more than $40,000, India has lowered the basic customs duty from 110% to 70%.
India’s EV market is still in its infancy when compared to China’s, but it provides a way for Tesla to address declining sales following its first yearly decline in EV sales in more than ten years. China sold 11 million electric cars last year, while India sold about 100,000.
